You have to go to Taos. If you are going in late September/October, then you can check out the Hot Air Balloon festival in Albuquerque. If you want a place to stay that is more camping-ish, try Ghost Ranch. You can camp camp (like with tents, fires, etc) or you can rent a cabin. It is so beautiful there; there are tons of places to go hiking, there is an actual working ranch so you can go horseback riding, there is a pool for swimming. It is amazing. You could go to Roswell, but it isn’t all that special.

Santa Fe is a nice start. Be sure to visit the farmers market on Saturday morning to feast on wonderful pastries and great coffee. Then jet north of town to the Tesuque flea market–lots of treasures to drool over. A short trip to Chimayo or a longer visit to Bandalier Monument (great hiking area as well as ruins) are in order. Ojo Caliente, Capulin volcano, Clayton for the dinosaur track site. A steam engine ride at Antonito. This state has it all. Enjoy!

Some must see places in New Mexico are:
1. Tent Rocks (between Albuquerque and Santa Fe)
2. Nambe Waterfalls (just North-east of Santa Fe)
3. Carlsbad Caverns (Carlsbad, Southern NM)
4. City of Rocks (South-west NM)
5. Ice Caves (near El Malpais)
6. Elephant Butte Lake
7. White Sands
8. Albuquerque’s Sandia Peak
9. Jemez Hot Springs (you may want to go there during Winter)
10. International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque
(if you’re planning a trip between Oct 6-15)
